Send Emoji
Privacy policy
We built Send Emoji around a simple idea: you share what you choose, nothing more. Here is exactly how we handle your data.
Effective date: October 2026 · LINBETTA Ltd, trading as Send Emoji
Who we are
Send Emoji is a product of LINBETTA Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller for all personal information processed through the Send Emoji app and its web pages (linbetta.com/apps/send-emoji).
We are subject to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our registered address and contact details are at the end of this policy.
What information we collect
We collect only what is necessary to run the service. That is:
- Account information — your email address, your first name and, if you choose to add it, your mobile number, so the people you are connected to can call you.
- Check-in data — how often and around what time you check in, your time zone (taken from your phone's settings so reminders arrive at the right local time), the emoji you send and the time you sent it. If you add an optional short note to a check-in, we store it with that check-in so the people you are connected to can read it.
- Connection data — the name and, if you add it, the mobile number of anyone you invite to connect with you. People join you using a code that you share yourself; we do not email or text them.
- Subscription data — whether you have a plan, are on a free trial or have no plan. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never receive or store your card details.
- Device and usage data — basic technical information such as your device type and operating system version, used to keep the app functioning correctly. This data is aggregated and is not linked to your identity.
We do not collect your location. We do not read your contacts. We do not access your camera or microphone.
How we use your information
Every piece of data we hold is used for one of the following purposes:
- To run your account — creating and managing your check-in schedule, monitor connections, and preferences.
- To deliver alerts — notifying your monitors when you check in, when you miss a check-in, or when you trigger the SOS button.
- To show your history — displaying your past check-ins, streak, and mood summary within the app.
- To send you service communications — check-in reminders and alerts sent as push notifications, and occasional account notices. You can turn reminders off in Settings → Notification settings.
- To improve the product — using aggregated, anonymised usage data to understand how people use the app so we can make it better. No individual is identifiable in this analysis.
Our legal basis for processing your data is performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for) and, for aggregated analytics, our legitimate interests in understanding and improving the product.
What we do not do
To be direct about it:
- We do not sell your personal data to any third party, ever.
- We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use your check-in data for any purpose beyond running the app.
- We do not show you personalised advertising.
- We do not use your data to build profiles for resale or marketing.
- We do not track your location at any point.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on servers provided by Supabase, Inc. Data at rest is encrypted. Data in transit is encrypted using TLS. Supabase infrastructure used for this service is located within the European Economic Area (EEA).
We share your data with the following categories of third-party service providers, strictly for the purpose of operating the service:
- Database and infrastructure — Supabase (data storage and authentication).
- Push notifications — Firebase (Google) for sending push notifications to your device.
- Contact messages — messages you send us through the app or website are delivered to our email inbox (linda@linbetta.com), hosted by Google.
- Payments — Apple and Google handle all subscription billing. We do not receive or store payment card information.
- Analytics — we use basic, cookieless analytics to measure aggregate app usage. No personal identifiers are sent to this service.
Each of these providers is bound by a data processing agreement and may not use your data for any purpose other than providing their service to us.
How long we keep data
We keep your account data and check-in history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data within 30 days. Backups containing your data are rotated and overwritten within 90 days of deletion.
Aggregated, anonymised data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely for product analytics.
If a monitor declines your connection request or you remove a monitor, their contact details are deleted from your account immediately.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data. You can also do this yourself at any time via Settings → Delete account in the app.
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to pause using your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability — you can request your check-in data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object — you can object to our use of your data where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at linda@linbetta.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Cookies and analytics
The Send Emoji app does not use cookies. The Send Emoji web pages on linbetta.com use only:
- Session cookies — set automatically by the browser to manage your visit. These expire when you close the browser and are not used for tracking.
- Essential first-party cookies — used to remember your preferences (such as whether you have dismissed a banner). These do not leave our domain.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or persistent cross-site tracking of any kind. Our website analytics are cookieless: they do not fingerprint your device or identify you individually.
Children
Send Emoji is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has created an account, please contact us at linda@linbetta.com and we will delete the account promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change — one that affects how your data is used in a meaningful way — we will display a notice in the app before the change takes effect. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
Continuing to use Send Emoji after a policy update means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account at any time.
